Services This Week for Man Killed in North Andover Chemical Plant Explosion

Carlos Amaral was killed in an explosion while at work in a lab at Dow Chemical.

Funeral services will be held Monday and Tuesday in Lowell for the Peabody man and employee at Dow Chemical who was killed Oct. 9 in an explosion at the North Andover plant.

According to an obituary published over the weekend, Carlos A. Amaral, 51, originally emigrated to the United States from the Azores in 1979 as a teenager with his family. They lived in Lowell for many years before Amaral moved to Peabody 17 years ago.

According to his obituary, Amaral worked at Dow Chemical for 14 years as a chemical technician. He leaves behind a son, step-son and other family members.

Calling hours will be at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland St. in Lowell on Monday from 4-8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central St. in Lowell, followed by burial at St. Patrick Cemetery.
