'Tommy Strong' Event Raises $22K

The Stevens Estate event was a huge success.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Stevens Estate Saturday night for a "Tommy Strong" benefit, and by the end of the night, the event raised $22,000 for the boy who has captivated the community with his courage.

Tommy Cox, 10, lost one leg and sustained other severe injuries in a boating accident in September. As medical costs rise, the Cox family -- which includes parents John and Julie and siblings Johnny, Rachel and Charlie -- have some help coming from their community.

Tommy -- who attends Sargent Elementary School and enjoys wrestling, lacrosse and football -- has had multiple surgeries since the accident and will require extensive medical treatment in the future.

When he is stable, Tommy is set to be transferred from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire to Spaulding Rehab in Boston. And when he comes home, his family will have to remodel their home to accommodate his needs.
