If You See Elder Abuse, Report It

The following was submitted by the North Andover Senior Center.

“Efforts to address elder abuse are 40 years behind those of child abuse and 20 years behind those of domestic violence” said Kathy Greenlee, Assistant Secretary for Aging (ASA) and Administration for Community Living Administrator. Greenlee added “That if we do not act now and apply the lessons we have learned from combating child abuse and domestic violence and sexual assault to develop a comprehensive approach that brings together all of the different resources to prevent elder abuse, the problem will only deepen.  Elder abuse is a problem that is only going to intensify as the population ages and the number of older persons increases." Does Obamacare qualify? How about the IRS? Or the Social Security scam? Elder abuse is bad, but it doesn't compare to the instances of child abuse that are being perpetrated! Twelve years of content-free indoctrination in government captivity (K-12), trillions in debt, 20% youth unemployment, ... but they do get free condoms ... I guess that makes up for it.   more ›

Learn About Elder Abuse

The following was submitted by the North Andover Senior Center.

This is a true story of a 92-year-old woman who became a prisoner in her own home. After her grandson moved in with her, he started allowing drug dealing, sex work, and other gang activity to take place in her home. Fearing for her safety but conflicted about confronting her grandson, she resorted to installing an iron security gate on her bedroom door to protect herself and her few belongings. Unfortunately, this story is not unique. Every year, millions of older Americans suffer in silence from abuse. And what many of us don’t realize is that no older American is safe as elder abuse cuts across racial, religious, ethnic, cultural, geographic, gender and socio-economic lines.
