Winter Beers Arrive in North Andover

See how three local beers pair perfectly with entrées from three local restaurants.

As the season changes from autumn to winter, many restaurants and bars are no longer offering the sweet and delicious pumpkin flavored beers that we enjoy with cinnamon sugar rims. Instead of mourning the temporary loss of these brilliant brews, let’s celebrate the new seasonal beers that will surely warm up our winter. When it comes to food and beer, we at Patch are big proponents of going local. So here are some local restaurants that are serving local, seasonal beers. Jaime’s Restaurant, over on High Street, is offering a unique brew that will be new to many North Andover residents. Phantom Punch Winter Stout arrived at Jaime’s recently. It’s brewed by the Baxter Brewing Company in Lewiston, Maine. BevNET Magazine named Baxter Brewing …

Athlete of the Week: Alyssa Zahoruiko

Junior skier says the sport is in her blood.

Alyssa Zahoruiko says skiing is in her blood. She grew up with her father and two brothers who love the sport.  Zahoruiko started skiing with her father at age six, and hasn't stopped since.  She skis seven days a week during the winter.  That dedication has made her the number 1 skier for the Lady Knights, she was the only North Andover girl skier at the State Championships this year.  It has also made Zahoruiko this week's Athlete of the Week.

Winter Concert Brings Spirit of the Season to North Andover

Horns and the human voice dominate musical showcase.

'Tis the season to sing and play at North Andover High School.  NAHS's award-winning band and chorus played in their first concert of the year to an audience of about 250. The concert featured the school's 66-member symphonic band and 63-member chorus, along with a number of smaller specialized groups. "Music is meant to be heard," said band director Aaron Goldberg, "so it's great for us to be out here performing." Goldberg's symphonic band, a band dominated by wind instruments, played British folk carols from the nineteenth century well. But his group really won the audience over with their condensed version of the Nutcracker Suite.  Kristen Ross, whose son, freshman Matt Piemonte, plays the baritone, was impressed by the band's sound and…

Knights Wrestlers Beat Down Hamilton-Wenham 36-0

North Andover’s Div. 2 Title defense begins with a blowout.

North Andover's bus ride to Hamilton-Wenham seemed to last longer than the 30 minute blowout of a meet. The Scarlet Knights varsity wrestling squad opened their Division 2 Dual-Meet State Title defense with a 36-0 beating over the Generals of Hamilton-Wenham High School on Thursday night. The far more battle tested Knights allowed only one point in the meet and won all six matches by pin. "We have an experienced club," said North Andover head coach David Castricone. The Scarlet Knights have 10 returning starters and four returning lettermen. They are ranked fifth in MassWrestling.com's preseason poll. North Andover, winners of the last nine Cape Ann League titles, is poised to make another run at the state title.  Last year's state title …
