Home Grown Lacrosse Brings The Outside In

Not just lacrosse - Home Grown offers soccer and flag football as well.

If you are looking to bring the thrill and excitement of outdoor sports to an indoor environment, look no further than Home Grown Lacrosse.  Home Grown’s indoor training space and turf field is a state of the art facility founded by Bryan Brazill in 2005.  Initially an outdoor program, Home Grown acquired the former town office space on Osgood Street in 2007 and created an indoor location for year round training and activities in the sports of lacrosse, soccer and flag football. Brazill is a graduate of Merrimack College and an experienced lacrosse coach. When he first started Home Grown he focused exclusively on private lessons and had half of his existing space. The high demand for his time necessitated expansion leading to the …

Scarlet Knights' Report Cards: Soccer

The O-Zone hands out report cards for the NAHS fall athletic teams.

Welcome to the first part of a three part series that looks back on the 2011 North Andover High School fall athletic season. Today we look at the soccer teams. Tomorrow we’ll feature the field hockey and volleyball teams, and on Wednesday, we’ll assess the football team. Girls Soccer Comments: This year’s edition of the girls soccer team hit its stride at the perfect point, and that is why they are given such a high assessment. A regular season record of 9-4-4 was on par with the amount of talent that the Knights had, and few were complaining about a berth in the MIAA Division 1 North playoffs as the 14th seed. What occurred in the playoffs was an unforgettable run that will be hard to top for next year’s squad. North Andover crushed …

With that win, the all 5th grade Select Team finished the season a perfect 8 wins and 0 loses to take the group title in ECYSA play. Peabody proved to be a tough opponent holding a 1 – 0 lead going into halftime. The F.C. United boys rose to the occasion in the second half with a relentless attack and a shutdown defense. The goals came from Justin Holland, Jules Bellosguardo, and Peter Coufos and assists from Nate D’Entremont and Nick Tilson. U14 Veracity Fall to Beverly

North Andover fell 2-0 over the weekend.

The following was submitted by the North Andover Soccer Association.  The U14 boys North Andover Veracity struggled to notch a win at home on Saturday, Oct. 29 against Beverly Storm. But, despite their efforts and continued steps towards improved play, it was not to be, and they lost 0-2. Both Beverly goals were scored early in the game and North Andover’s attacks became stronger and stronger as the game progressed. Veracity has one more shot next Sat., Nov. 5 against Andover after which point they will hunker down for the winter and look to emerge stronger in the spring. Irrespective of the game outcome there were improvements on all fronts. Keeper COLE JULIUS led the team in responding to Beverly’s wake-up call. His technique was …

U12 Raiders Top Danvers

A strong group of North Andover girls pulled through over the weekend against a tough Danvers team.

The following was submitted by the North Andover Soccer Association. The U12 girls North Andover Raiders defeated Danvers 2-1 in Danvers on Saturday October 29. It is hard to single out just one highlight to this game! Center midfielder DANA SWARTZ responded to a call for creativity ("what does creativity mean to you?") with a well-executed and meaningful heel pass that was one of the better decisions to be made at the time! You would think that the expectation for these kinds of new and somewhat-unpracticed things, like heel passes, would result in silly-looking plays that quickly flip possession to the opposing team. But not with the Raiders, and not with Dana! Dana's positioning as center midfielder also rapidly approached phenomenal in…

Welcome to the second installment of our Scarlet Knights fall sports season preview. Today we look at the North Andover High School boys soccer team. The Knights are coming off a fantastic but heartbreaking season. The regular season saw the Knights finish 11-4-3. In the 2010 MIAA Division 2 playoffs, North Andover was able earn the sixth seed and a bye in the preliminary round of the tournament. At one point in the season, North Andover earned itself a ranking of number 17 on the Boston Globe’s poll. "It's a nice tribute to our team," said head coach William Tarbox of the ranking. "That sort of reflects that fact that they are respecting us, the Globe." The Knights scored two goals to win two tournament games and enter into the semi-…
