They're not exactly the biggest ski areas on the East Coast, but you can still get some fun runs in fairly close to Boston without waking up at 5 a.m. and spending the full weekend in Vermont. The NAHS winter teams are approaching mid-season and that means they are busy, busy, busy. Today the boys ski team will be in action at Bradford Ski Hill, but watch out because six North Andover teams are in action Wednesday. Girls Skiing At Bradford Ski Hill, the girls ski team will have its second meet of the season against Haverhill High School. The meet begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday and the forecast calls for a perfect skiing temperature of about 35 degrees. Boys and Girls Indoor Track Both squads will take on Andover Wednesday. The meet gets underway tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. The Golden Warriors will host the event. It will be both teams’ first competition against Andover this season. The Knights hockey team clinched a berth in the MIAA State Tournament with a 4-0 win over Somerville on Monday night. Cody Aponas scored twice for the Knights while Rick O'Connor and Daniel O'Connor each tallied one. Captain Mike Cusack and his teammate Jake Silk each achieved multiple point games with two assists apiece. Knights goalie Joey Daccord celebrated a special night notching his first career shutout. Daccord was phenomenal in net, stopping all of the 32 shots that came his way. Girls Skiing On the slopes yesterday, North Andover finished in third place out of six squads with an overall score of 313.5. Andover won the competition with a score of 541.5, and Masconomet finished in second with 418.5. The only Knight in the top 10 …

The roof caved in on Hamilton-Wenham Tuesday night. The Lady Knights dealt the Generals a 45-26 loss Tuesday night en route to their ninth consecutive win. Morgan Lumb led her team in scoring with 14 points. Her two three pointers helped pace the Knights who led by 11 at the half. The third quarter decided the game as the Knights' defense clamped down and allowed only two points in the entire period. Meanwhile North Andover scored 14 in the quarter to extend their lead. North Andover also got a big contribution from co-captain Amanda Foote whose ten points were instrumental in building up the Knights lead. The Scarlet Knights wrestling team destroyed its rivals from Masconomet Regional High last night, taking the dual meet 55-10. The meet was a tune-up for tomorrow's Division II State Semifinal right here in North Andover. The Knights host Marshfield at 7 p.m. tomorrow in their quest to repeat as dual meet champions of Division II. Last night's meet featured many of head coach David Castricone's top guns including Adam Bates and Frank McCarthy, a couple of co-captains on the squad. Wrestlers to win by pin were Corey Chaff at 112 pounds, Nick Cincotta at 119, Zane Melillo at 130, Frank McCarthy at 145, Ryan Neals at 189, and John Pollard in the heavyweight class. Yesterday afternoon at Bradford Ski Area, the boys ski team was beaten handily by a superior squad from St. John’s Prep. When it was all said and done, the Knights went home with a 129-6 loss. The loss put the reeling Knights at 1-5 this season. Their only win came against Haverhill in their last meet. North Andover could only watch as St. John’s skiers Bobby Holmes, Chris Simeone, Wes Groom, Brad Noyes, Tom Rogers, Kyle Heffrin, Dave Burnett, Jason Pan, and Joey Frisch all flew down the hill for top 15 scores on the day. North Andover did not have a single skier finish within the top 15. Other participants in the meet included Manchester, Haverhill, Andover, and Masconomet.
