Police to Collect Prescriptions Again

After the success of the program last fall, the police will collect unused prescription drugs to keep them off the illegal drug market.

North Andover Police, in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Agency, will collect unused prescription medications on April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The DEA and police teamed up in September for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. That effort was a huge success, police said, so they decided to do it again this month. According to a 2009 report by Mental Health Administration, more than 7 million Americans abuse prescription drugs, and every day about 2,500 teens prescription drugs to get high. Studies have shown that many people who abuse prescription drugs obtain them from family and friends.
