Four North Andover Teams in Playoffs

A great season for the Knights.

It's winter sports playoff season, and North Andover has reason to be proud. Four teams are headed to playoffs. Both the boys and girls basketball team as well as girls gymnastics and alpine ski team make the first round of the MIAA playoffs. Here's the run-down:

Congratulations to those teams. Also, congratulations to the three North Andover High School girls that play on the Division 1 Co-Op ice hockey team with Masco. This team finished the regular season in fifth place and earning a bye in the first round of the tournament! Best of Luck to all North Andover High Students in the State Tournament. Little Leaguers Gear Up for District Playoffs

North Andover Little League President Kevin Breen shared his thoughts on the upcoming Little League playoffs.

Last summer was a memorable one for North Andover Little Leaguers. The season was highlighted by North Andover East, a squad of 10 year olds that went on to win their age group’s state championship. One of this year’s district tournaments is already underway and North Andover Little League President Kevin Breen took a few moments to share his thoughts about the local squads. “It was a special experience and one that those kids will always share with each other,” Breen said about last year’s state champions. “I haven't seen another run like that but it has given all of our teams hope that they can accomplish something special,” he added. Fall Teams Falter in Playoffs

The boys soccer, girls soccer, field hockey, and volleyball teams' seasons ended.

Boys Soccer The Knights began the MIAA Division 2 North playoffs as the fifth seed in the tournament.  After beating Dracut in the first round, the Knights hit the wall against 20th ranked Wayland. The Knights fell in overtime 1-0 on Wednesday.  Field Hockey The field hockey nights also came into the playoffs as the fifth ranked team. The Knights beat Lowell 3-0 in the first round to move on into the quarterfinals.  Against fourth ranked Chelmsford, the Knights fell 2-1 to end their season last Sunday.  Girls Soccer North Andover had an amazing run in the MIAA Division 1 North playoffs that ended in the semifinals. Yesterday the girls and boys soccer teams each advanced in the playoffs.

Girls Soccer The North Andover girls pulled off one of the most unexpected upsets you will ever see last night. The 14th ranked Knights beat the 3rd ranked Andover Warriors last night 1-0 in overtime. Andover had previously been undefeated after finishing the regular season 14-0-3. North Andover advances into a matchup against 11th ranked Medford in the quarterfinals. Medford is 13-4-1. That game is tomorrow afternoon at 4pm. Boys Soccer Former Athlete of the Week Mike Skarbelis potted a pair of second half goals to give fifth ranked North Andover a 2-1 win over Dracut in the first round of the MIAA Division 2 North playoffs. Showdown of the Andovers Tonight in Girls Soccer Playoffs

Undefeated Andover hosts North Andover in the MIAA Division 1 first round tonight.

North Andover beat Chelsea 9-0 yesterday setting up a showdown between the Andovers in the MIAA Division 1 girls soccer first round tonight at 7 p.m. The Andover Golden Warriors will host the Scarlet Knights of North Andover who are ranked 14th in the tournament. The Warriors, meanwhile, are ranked third after finishing the season undefeated with a record of 14-0-3.  The Knights had to dispose of Chelsea before earning the right to face Andover. The Warriors had a bye in the preliminary round.  North Andover is on a two game winning streak while Andover has won four straight.  The winner of tonight's game will host Medford. The Mustangs upset East Boston 5-0 and have already advanced into the tournament's quarterfinals. 

North Andover Girls Open Playoffs Over Weekend

The soccer and volleyball teams fared well while the field hockey team's season ended.

Girls Soccer In the preliminary round of the MIAA North playoffs, North Andover crushed Chelsea 9-0 to set up a first round matchup against Andover today. Leah Chittick and Pam Coufos each scored twice in the Knights' biggest win this season. The Knights are ranked at number fourteen in the tournament and will have to come up with a miraculous performace to beat Andover today who finished the season undefeated at 14-0-3.  Girls Volleyball The fifth ranked Knights opened the playoffs with a 3-0 win over Haverhill on Saturday. Julia Titone led the way with four kills. Courtey Green had 15 service points. Kaylee Lambrinos had a strong game with 20 digs. The Knights face fourth ranked Tewksbury on Tuesday night at 7pm.  Field Hockey The …

Dave Messina gave North Andover a 1-0 lead in the first, but two third period goals gave Bishop Fenwick the win.

North Andover was only a period away from an incredible upset over (#5) Bishop Fenwick. The twelfth ranked Knights were expelled from the the 2011 MIAA Division II North Division Tournament after their wheels fell off in the third period.  Dave Messina scored a first period goal getting an assist from Rick O'Connor. Joey Daccord (25 saves) was perfect in the first and second periods before allowing two goals in the third. North Andover appeared to have tied it in the final minute of the game. The puck crossed the goal line on a Knights' shot, but the goal was disallowed as the net was off its pegs. Half a minute later, Bishop Fenwick was on the ice celebrating. Boys Basketball Playoff Rescheduled to Tonight

The MIAA moved North Andover's first playoff game from Tuesday night to tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The MIAA rescheduled the North Andover boys basketball team's first playoff game against Melrose High School from Tuesday, March 1 to Wednesday, March 2. The game will be played tonight at 7:30 p.m. at North Andover High School.  The reason for the schedule change was due to conflicts with playoff hockey tournaments that each school is participating in. The change in schedule made it possible for more fans to attend yesterday's boys hockey game against Bishop Fenwick. The change in date also benefitted Melrose High by resolving a scheduling conflict with their girls hockey team. The winner of tonight's basketball game between the (#3) Knights and (#14) Red Raiders will face (#6) Woburn in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Division II North …

PLAYOFFS: Scarlet Knights Postseason is Here

Postseason fever will hit North Andover this evening.

A true Scarlet Knights fan will spend their evening at Salem State University watching the Knights hockey squad take on Bishop Fenwick and then hightail it back to the high school for the basketball team’s 7 p.m. tip-off against Melrose High. A postseason storm will hit tomorrow when both winter teams begin their respective playoff pursuits for glory. The Knights hockey team will start the festivities off with a 5 p.m. face-off against Bishop Fenwick.   The 12th seeded Knights have been practicing hard to try and pull an upset over fifth ranked Bishop Fenwick. North Andover posted an 11-6-4 record under head coach Peter Marfione in his first year behind the bench for North Andover. Bishop-Fenwick’s strong 14-4-2 record will not be enough …

March Madness Tips Off This Week

North Andover hoopsters host Melrose Tuesday to tip-off the basketball playoffs; playoff hockey also begins tomorrow when NAHS battles Bishop Fenwick.

Head coach Mike McVeigh and the North Andover Scarlet Knights have accomplished quite a bit in the last two seasons. Two Cape Ann League Titles (one shared with Wilmington) and 35 wins have highlighted the past two years for North Andover basketball fans. North Andover has clinched a remarkable five straight Cape Ann League crowns.  The Crozier Crazies have had a lot to cheer about recently, and that is expected to continue on Tuesday night when the Knights hosts fourteenth ranked Melrose High. The Knights are ranked at #3 as they finished the 2010-11 regular season campaign at a strong 16-4 clip. Wilmington is ranked #1 after finishing the season at 17-3.
