The all 5th grade U-12 boys FC United have completed their spring season with an Essex County Youth Soccer Association (ECYSA) playoff berth. They began their inaugural year in travel team play with an 8-0 record in the fall season. As a result of their fall season success, they started the spring season as the “team to beat.” At the halfway point of the eight-game season, FC United had 2-1-1 record. With four games remaining, they had to win all four games to qualify for the ECYSA playoffs. FC United won their week 5 game against Peabody (6-3) and their week 6 game against Triton (7-0) before taking a break from regular season play to participate in the Danvers Memorial Day Weekend Tournament. On a windy and cold Saturday afternoon in Newburyport the North Andover Fire (U12) girls soccer team won a physical match, 2-0, over the Newburyport Lightning! The Fire scored first on shot from the left wing by Peyton Sportelli. Molly Connolly added the assist after fighting to regain the ball. Izzy Ceraso netted the second goal with hard left footed shot after evading the Newburyport defense with her footskills. The Fire was led by it’s normally stingy defense led by Riley Cinquegrano, Eva Sauls, Liz Steinberg, & Madi Landry. The Fire resume play next weekend against a tough Peabody team.

The North Andover Girls 5th grade select soccer team used a smothering defense to shut out Pentucket 4-0 Saturday at Foster Field. Riley Cinquegrano got the scoring started when she rifled a penalty kick into the top corner following a take down of Caroline Evangelista in the box. Christina Farmer followed with a high blast from just inside midfield to make it 2-0 at the half. North Andover made it 3-0 when Peyton Sportelli scored on the rebound of a shot by Molly Connolly. Maggie Phillips, whose solid first half goaltending helped preserve the shut out, also finished off the scoring when she took a pass from Izzy Ceraso and buried a one timer in the back of the Pentucket goal.

The following was submitted by the North Andover Soccer Association. The U14 boys North Andover Veracity played Georgetown on Saturday October 1 in a game that for North Andover was about improvements. They lost, 5-0, but are slowly but surely improving and with no shortage of effort by the Veracity players they may find opposing teams a little bit easier at the Columbus Day Tournament next weekend and then easier still each remaining week of the fall season. The game saw the possession center of mass move steadily across the field, starting from the North Andover defensive third at the beginning of the game and reaching, by the end of the game, their offensive third. North Andover forwards Michael Polignone, Andrue Crowley, Gary Baginski…

The following article was submitted by the North Andover Soccer Association. On Sunday, June 19, North Andover’s U12 D2 team, the Red Fury, faced off against their counterparts from Andover in the Essex County Championship game. On a beautiful, sun drenched Father’s Day, North Andover’s undefeated unit quickly fell behind to the Thunder 2-0. Making matters worse, Andover knocked goalie Sam Naftal from the game. Fortunately for the Red Thunder, they had an ace up their sleeve and were able to replace Naftal with Matt Shea in net who played brilliantly in goal. Just before halftime, the tide turned for the Red Fury as they continued to put pressure on the Thunder’s defensive unit. With the help of Matty Waterman and Nick Coutracos, …
