Gusty northwest winds are expected Friday afternoon.
The National Weather Service is warning of elevated fire weather conditions developing Friday afternoon and continuing into Saturday. Gusty northwest winds are expected Friday afternoon. The winds plus dry conditions will create a fire hazard, according to the NWS. Elevated fire conditions will continue through mid-day Saturday, but winds should diminish in the afternoon. There is a "low probability" that southwest winds on Sunday will cause a wind advisory.

You've probably heard that we're expected to see more snow this weekend. The National Weather Service has North Andover on a "hazardous weather outlook" for Saturday into Sunday. But how much snow should we expect? The snow is expected to fall sporadically Saturday morning through Sunday morning, but the Merrimack Valley is only expected to see about 5 inches of new snowfall. Saturday afternoon might bring some rain as well. And temperatures are expected to drop well below freezing Saturday night, which will likely mean that rain freezing into a sheet of ice. Gusts could reach 60 MPH — Gusts even higher have been reported in Boston. The winds could bring down trees, tree limbs and send unsecured objects flying around the town.
High winds are a serious concern for North Andover this morning. The National Weather Service has declared a High Wind Warning through 9 a.m. Thursday. Gusts are reaching 60 MPH. Down in Boston, gusts up to 80 MPH have already been reported Thursday morning by WBZ. The winds could topple trees, knock off tree limbs and send unsecured objects flying around town. A high wind watch has been issued for Wednesday night because of the possibility of wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.
Wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour on Wednesday night could bring down trees and power lines, warns the National Weather Service. A high wind watch was issued on Tuesday at 4:42 p.m. by the weather service on Taunton for much of coastal and eastern Massachusetts, including North Andover, because the south-southwest winds at 20-30 mph could gust to 60 mph. The high wind watch means that the potential exists for strong and damaging winds in the area. The strong winds could bring down trees and power lines as well as cause property damage, the weather service said. How much will we see?
The National Weather Service is forecasting a little snow in our immediate future. Snow showers are expected to begin Monday afternoon and continue through the evening. No need to get the snow blowers, though. North Andover is only expected to get about an inch of accumulation. The hazard will likely be in the form of ice. The snow is expected to mix with sleet Monday night into Tuesday morning, combined with freezing temperatures in the low teens, making a slippery morning commute Tuesday. On Tuesday, the snow and sleet are expected to change over to rain by the afternoon as temperatures climb to the low 40s.

It's winter in New England. And winter in New England is cold. We know this. But right now, we're at the beginning of an extra cold stretch. With a wind chill advisory in effect, we figured you could help warm your fingers by typing an ending to the beginning of this sentence: "You know it's cold out when..." You may want to let your car warm up for an extra few minutes this morning. The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for North Andover for the next couple of days. The high temperature today is expected to be 17 degrees, with a wind chill of -15 degrees. And as if that's not enough, there will likely be wind gusts up to about 30 miles per hour. Wednesday night will be about zero degrees with a wind chill of -14 degrees. But don't break out the shorts on Thursday. The arctic freeze will still be here then, with a high of 17 degrees and a wind chill values as low as -16. Northwest wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Temperatures are expected to "warm up" to the 20s by the weekend.

We could see several inches of snow.
The arctic air that has settled into the region is not the only winter weather news this week. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for eastern Massachusetts including North Andover Monday night into Tuesday. Snow is expected to stop Tuesday afternoon. Heaviest snow will be along the coastal communities and a little inland. North Andover is right near the line, so the track of the storm will determine whether we see a few inches or nearly a foot inches of accumulation. WBZ's Barry Burbank is predicting 6-12 inches in our area. Then on Wednesday, temperatures are expected to be the coldest we've seen in two years , with highs in the low teens.
