The woman allegedly tried to rob an elderly woman.
A Tewksbury woman was arrested at Market Basket in North Andover just after 10:30 a.m. Friday for allegedly stealing an elderly woman's purse in the store. Police say Gloria Cimmino, 56, of 128 South St., Tewksbury, stole the elderly woman's purse from her carriage while she was looking the other way. Cimmino allegedly then took money and a checkbook out of the purse and threw the purse in another aisle. Another person reportedly saw the theft and notified North Andover Police, who rushed over to Market Basket and arrested Cimmino. The arrest occurred Wednesday near Royal Crest.
A Middleton man was arrested for charges relating to guns and drugs during a traffic stop in North Andover Wednesday morning. North Andover Police Officer Mark Wilson stopped Michael Evans, 29, of 19 Peabody St., Middleton, Wednesday at around 10:30 a.m., at the intersection of Royal Crest Drive and Turnpike Street, for having a faulty registration sticker. Upon investigation, Wilson discovered the registration sticker was fraudulent and placed Evans under arrest for having a false Registry of Motor Vehicles document, Lt. Charles Gray said. Then, while searching Evans' car, Wilson reportedly discovered a gun, a glock, that was loaded. And then he noticed three more -- two rifles and a handgun. Wilson then reportedly found prescription …

The training exercise simulated a school shooting scenario.
For a few days this week, the sound of gunshots filled North Andover High School. Not to worry -- the students were on vacation, there were no real guns used, and the whole thing was a training exercise for local police officers. The North Andover Police Department, with cooperation with the North Andover School Department, conducted active shooter/crisis intervention drills inside the High School on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. As with a real-life situation, there was no time to prepare, no time to go get other equipment, ballistic vests or additional firepower. They headed into the building and were met by the School Resource Officer Brendan Gallagher and North Andover Police Officer and NEMLEC SWAT Team Officer Patrick Noonan. "The …

Paul Gallagher, longtime lieutenant of the North Andover Police, took his oath as new interim police chief Monday.
In a ceremony that marked a new era in local law enforcement, North Andover Police got a new chief Monday. Paul Gallagher, longtime lieutenant on the department, took his oath as the interim police chief in front of his family, friends and fellow members of the department. Gallagher was appointed to the position by the Board of Selectmen on April 29, in the wake of Chief Richard Stanley's decision to leave the department for a police chief position in Wareham. On Monday, after Town Clerk Joyce Bradshaw swore him in, Gallagher had his son Brendan, also on the police force, pin his chief badge on him.
