Scarlet Knights Swimmers Win Close Meet Against Hamilton-Wenham

In a back-and-forth meet between Cape Ann League opponents, the North Andover Scarlet Knights edged out the Hamilton-Wenham Generals 86-84 on Tuesday, Dec. 21 to remain undefeated. The Knights next meet is against Manchester-Essex on Wednesday, Dec. 22.

The North Andover swimmers battled back-and-forth with the team from Hamilton-Wenham, but were able to come out on top 86-84, to improve to 2-0 in the 2010-11 season. "Tonight's meet was one of those roller-coaster score meets," said head coach Chris Krueger, "we'd be up, then down, then up, then tied, and then down again." "Third, fourth and fifth place finishes are what made the difference in eking out just two points ahead," he said. "Going into the last relay we knew we needed two of the top three places, and we took it. I'm proud of the effort of every swimmer and supporter at tonight's races." Scarlet Knights Cross-Country Sends Four Runners to All-States

Even though the North Andover cross-country teams missed the cut at the MIAA Eastern Mass Divisional Championships on Nov. 13, four Knights qualified for the All-State Meets on Nov. 20 in Gardner, MA with strong individual performances.

It was a matter of five points that ended up keeping the North Andover Scarlet Knights boys team out of the All-State Meets, as they finished in fifth place in Division II at the MIAA Eastern Mass Divisional Championships on Nov. 13 at Franklin Park. "We were just out by seven spots and 20 seconds," said head coach Rick Dellechiaie, "it was close and we made it interesting. Overall I am very happy with the way we ran today." The Knights (179) were just edged out by fourth place Lincoln-Sudbury (172) and missed the wildcard entry as their team time (1:28.56) was behind Acton-Boxborough (1:26.02), the DI fifth place finisher. MIAA Coaches Required to Take Concussion Education Course

After the enactment of a recent Department of Public Health law, Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association coaches will now be required to take part in a concussion education course.

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Wellness Program is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary of promoting the health and safety of student-athletes. The program consists of extensive programming and policies focused on helping student-athletes make healthy life choices. To further the efforts of the wellness program, the MIAA Board of Directors voted unanimously this month to make it mandatory for all member-school coaches to take an online concussion course starting with the 2010-11 winter season, which begins on Nov. 29.
