Worker Injured at Merrimack College

The accident happened Monday afternoon.

A worker at Merrimack College was injured after falling about 20 feet on Monday afternoon. Campus police confirmed that the worker -- whose name has not been released -- fell and suffered from back pain afterward. He was taken to Lawrence General Hospital. OSHA was also reportedly notified.

Silent Comedy 'Grandma's Boy' Coming to Merrimack

The silent film era returns to the big screen at Rogers Center for the Arts on the campus of Merrimack College. with the screening of a classic silent comedy and short subjects, all accompanied by live music. Showtime is Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. All are welcome to this family-friendly event; admission is free and the show is open to the public. Featured will be a full-length comedy, 'Grandma's Boy,' starring Harold Lloyd, a popular 1920s film star. Comedy short subjects will include 'Neighbors' (1920) starring Buster Keaton and 'Mighty Like a Moose' (1926) starring Charley Chase. Merrimack College and Cardinal Sean O’Malley to Honor Rabbi for Work in Jewish-Muslim Relations

On Monday, October 15, Merrimack College will bestow the prestigious 2012 Goldziher Prize on Rabbi Burton L. Visotzky of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City for his work in advancing Jewish-Muslim dialogue. Cardinal Seán O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston, will be in attendance to lend the support of the Catholic Church to Rabbi Visotzky‟s interfaith work. The Goldziher Prize is named for the Hungarian Jewish scholar Ignác Goldziher (1850-1921). In 1873 and 1874 Goldziher toured Constantinople, Beirut, Damascus, Jerusalem, and Cairo where he became a student at Al-Azhar. There he prayed in a mosque and wrote in his diary, “In the midst of thousands of the pious... never in my life was I more devout ...than on that Friday.” …

Merrimack Student Has Passion for Politics

MaryRose Mazzola has been campaigning since childhood.

After MaryRose Mazzola graduates from Merrimack College next weekend, she plans to jump right into the 2012 election full-time. The 21-year-old student is delaying grad school to work on State Sen. Barry Finegold's campaign, the Boston Globe is reporting. Mazzola, of Chelmsford, has been politically active since middle school and has been juggling school with her work on Finegold's campaign the past few months. Read the full story here.

Merrimack Signs Partnership with Fox College Sports to Broadcast Three Hockey Games Live

Merrimack College has inked a partnership with Fox College Sports to broadcast three hockey games live from Lawler Arena. All of the game will be created and produced in-house by Merrimack and Pack Network. In addition to last Saturday’s game against Union, the January 29 game against Providence and February 3 game against Boston University will be televised live on the Fox College Sports Network. Each of these games and the January 14 game against Maine will also be televised live in high definition on WBIN-TV locally. Merrimack is the only Hockey East school to reach a contract to broadcast some of its games nationally. Top Ranked Warriors Fall Twice to Providence

The top team in the nation lost its first two games of the season over the weekend.

Merrimack College went into a weekend series against Providence undefeated and ranked as the top team in the nation. Over the weekend, the Friars stripped Merrimack of both of those titles. On Friday, the Warriors visited Providence and lost its first game of the season in overtime. Jesse Todd scored for Merrimack in the third period to tie things up at one. One minute and 54 seconds into overtime, Ross Mauermann ended Merrimack’s undefeated streak. On Saturday, the matchup shifted to North Andover where the Friars took the momentum of the overtime win and embarrassed the Warriors on their home ice. Athlete of the Week: Karl Stollery

Stollery is the top defenseman and senior captain of the nation's top ranked hockey team.

Karl Stollery of the Merrimack College hockey team is this week’s Athlete of the Week for his major role on the nation’s top ranked squad. Merrimack has topped the polls now for a week and a half. The Warriors are still the only undefeated team in the nation. Stollery is tied for second on the team with nine points this year. He has potted three goals and made six assists. Stollery is also tied for the team lead with seven blocked shots. A native of Camrose, Alberta, Stollery is the team’s captain and its top defenseman. Last year he was one of only five players to play in all of Merrimack’s 35 games. Stollery, 24 years of age, is a business major at Merrimack. This will be his last year in blue and gold as the senior is expected to …

Merrimack Hockey is Tops in the Nation

The Warriors are ranked number 1 in the country for the first time in history.

Today, North Andover boasts the best college hockey team in the entire nation. Merrimack College may be the smallest Division 1 hockey school, but it is also the only undefeated team in the nation. The Warriors are 8-0-1 this year. They earned 27 first place votes in the USCHO National Poll and 20 first place votes in the USA Today poll. Merrimack won only three games in the 2006-07 season; now they are tops in the country, an improvement that few were able to foresee. Last year, the Warriors soared as high as #4 in the nation, winning a school record 25 games and advancing to its first ever Hockey East Championship game. Athlete of the Week: Joe Cannata

Cannata and the Merrimack College Warriors are ranked second in the nation.

Athlete of the Week Joe Cannata was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. His squad is in the midst of one of their best season in team history. The Warriors are 8-0-1 and despite earning more first-place votes than any other team in the nation, Merrimack is ranked second in the country. Only Minnesota is ranked higher. Merrimack is the only undefeated team in the nation at this point in the season. Merrimack beat Boston University one week ago and Cannata made 26 saves. The senior was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Cannata started each of Merrimack's 39 games as a junior last year.
