North Andover has won 23 straight games, but if you watched them play, you would think that they haven’t won anything yet. And if you asked them, they would tell you they haven’t won anything yet. In 2009, the Knights won a sectional title. They matched that feat on Monday night, but the celebration was very subdued. Righty Brandon Walsh pitched a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts. He knows there is still a lot of work to be done. “We treated 2009 like it was our state championship,” Walsh said of the sectional final game. The team was unable to produce in the state semifinal back in ’09. In 2011, the attitude is different. “We’re still hungry and want to get this state championship,” said Walsh. North Andover beat Gloucester at LaLacheur Park yesterday to advance to the MIAA Division 2 Championship game.

At LaLacheur Park in Lowell yesterday, the North Andover Scarlet Knights won their 22nd straight game and advanced into the MIAA Division 2 North Championship. The championship bout will be held today at 6:00 p.m. in Lynn. The Knights will battle Lynn Classical with a berth in the Division 2 State Tournament at stake. Last night it was Mike Weisman who played the hero for North Andover. He pitched a complete game, three hit shutout in North Andover’s 3-0 win over Gloucester. Weisman struck out 11 batters. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning as Gloucester’s starter Matthew Catarino was also spinning a gem. Boys Tennis Today, the boys tennis team will host Cambridge at 3:30 p.m. The Knights had a grueling and emotional 3-2 victory over Malden to advance into the semifinal round. Before that, it was a 5-0 crushing of Malden Catholic that advanced North Andover into the quarterfinals. Cambridge has upset their way through the playoffs. They beat Gloucester 4-1 and then Central Catholic 3-2 in the quarterfinals. The sixth seeded Knights are 14-4. Cambridge, the 10th seed, is 14-7. The winner of today’s match will advance into the MIAA Division 2 North Final. The opponent will be Winchester who beat Burlington to advance. North Andover edged out Malden 3-2 yesterday in the MIAA Division 2 North Quarterfinals. The Knights move on to the sectional semifinals which will be against Camrbidge tomorrow. Cambridge, the tournament's 10th seed, will travel up to North Andover, the sixth seed, for the match beginning at 3:30 p.m. Yesterday's match featured some intense competition and controversy. North Andover took both doubles matches in straight sets, while Malden countered with a decisive win in the first singles pairing, leaving two hard fought singles matches to play out. The first featured Malden captain Andrew DeLacey against North Andover’s top singles player Mike Terranova. DeLacey won the first 6-3, but Terranova battled back, taking the second set 6-4. …

North Andover ended their regular season on a five match winning streak.
North Andover finished 2011 with its best regular season record since 2005. The Knights finished up the 2011 campaign with a romp of North Reading. The Scarlet Knights took all five matches against the Hornets. It was North Andover’s fifth consecutive win. The Knights’ final regular season record for the year is 12-4. Mike Terranova continued his solid season with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Sherwin Yamin was victorious at second singles 6-2, 6-1. Alex Hammond was flawless at third singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. At first doubles, Ross Boyle and Alex Durfee won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. At second doubles, Andrew Smith and Kyle White recovered from a first set falter to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. The MIAA team tennis tournament pairings will be released on June 1.

Girls Lacrosse The girls lax team is on fire right now. Karen Lahey's squad edged Pinkerton 5-4 yesterday to win their 12th game in a row. Olivia Boudreau scored the game winning goal with 1:13 left in the contest. It was Boudreau's third goal of the game. Maggie Samulman and Pam Coufos were North Andover's other goal scorers. Bridget Kitchen made seven saves in net for the Knights. The girls now boast a 14-1 record on the season. The Knights travel to Westford Academy for a game on Friday afternoon and will play at Andover on Monday. North Andover is ranked 15th in the state by the Boston Globe and 16th by ESPNBoston.com. The Knights baseball team is on an absolute tear. They will be featured in North Andover Patch’s game of the week this week and rightfully so. Tomorrow afternoon, the Knights will face Wilmington in hopes of winning their 13th straight game. The Knights beat Hamilton-Wenham on Saturday 16-0 to improve to 12-1. Mike Weisman, the team’s most consistent contributor, ripped three hits in the offensive outburst. North Andover is gaining statewide recognition in the polls. Girls tennis The Knights came away with a four matches to one win against the Generals yesterday at Hamilton-Wenham. Rachel Muller and Hannah Lahey each won their singles matches in straight sets. Alex Sprecht and Maggie Silva won their doubles match in three sets. Allie Herland and Shelby Mosier won theirs in straight sets. North Andover improved to 5-3 with the win and will travel to Andover on Friday afternoon. Boys tennis The boys squad had a rough go of it yesterday against Hamilton-Wenham. The Knights scored seven times in the first and five times in the third to crush the Tigers of Ipswich High School yesterday afternoon amidst a persistant drizzle. North Andover won its tenth game in a row improving their record to 10-1 on the season. The Knights are currently ranked as the #8 team in the state by the Boston Globe and are the #14 team as ranked by ESPNBoston.com Tyler Leavitt got the start and picked up the win for the Knights. The lefty pitched six innings and picked up ten strikeouts along the way. Leavitt helped out his own cause by also driving in a pair of runs. North Andover 's next game is tomorrow afternoon at 3:45 p.m. The Knights will travel to Newburyport to take on the Clippers.
