Merrimack College hockey coach Mark Dennehy led the Warriors to 25 wins this season, a record for the school’s Division 1 history. Yesterday Dennehy was announced All-New England Coach of the Year. It was the second consecutive season Dennehy was awarded the honor. Dennehy lead the Warriors to other historic feats this season such as advancing to the team’s first ever Hockey East Final. With a convincing 4-1 victory against UNH at TD Garden, the Warriors advanced into uncharted waters. In the Hockey East Final, however, Merrimack fell 5-3 at the hands of the Boston College Eagles. Dennehy led Merrimack to its first NCAA Tournament in 23 years. In a stunning comeback, Notre Dame took down the Warriors 4-3 in a first round overtime thriller…

The Merrimack College Warriors may have suffered a shocking and heartbreaking loss to end their season on Saturday, but let us not forget that their season was one for the books. The Warriors in 2010-11 were quite simply the best in team in the school's history. Merrimack was able to set new school records in home wins, road wins, and sellouts. Rather than dwelling on the unfortunate end to the Warriors’ season, let’s take a look at the team’s best home wins and sellouts. After all, a packed Lawler Arena seemed to do a number on tough opposition from Boston College, Boston University, UNH, and Maine. Home Wins Merrimack was absolutely incredible at their home rink of Lawler Arena. They were close to unbeatable. The Warriors accumulated …

The Verizon Wireless Arena, known to some as “The Big V,” will host Merrimack College’s first NCAA Tournament game in 23 years. Saturday night in Manchester, the Warriors will face off against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in the first round of the 16-team tournament. The winner of Saturday night’s showdown will play the winner of the Saturday afternoon game, Miami of Ohio or the University of New Hampshire. The two succeeding teams will do battle on Sunday night with a berth in the NCAA Frozen Four on the line. This year’s Frozen Four is slated to get underway on April 7 at the Xcel Entergy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. Merrimack was fortunate to be scheduled into the Manchester bracket, as the other four regional brackets are located…

The Merrimack College Warriors made history two nights ago, but last night was another story. The Warriors and Boston College Eagles went into the third period of the Hockey East Championship game tied at three, but the Eagles outscored Merrimack 3-1 in the final frame to come away with a 5-3 win. Merrimack’s head coach Mark Dennehy summed it up best: “It’s a good learning lesson for us; that’s the bad news,” he said. “The good news is, we continue on,” Dennehy said. “I get to coach these young men again next week, which we’re obviously excited about,” he said. This morning at 11:30 a.m., ESPN 2 will televise the NCAA Tournament Selection show. Sixteen of the top college hockey teams in the nation will be selected to participate in the …

Merrimack College made history at TD Garden last night. Last night’s 4-1 triumph over the University of New Hampshire Wildcats was Merrimack’s biggest win in school history, as the team has never reached the Hockey East Finals until now. The Warriors will face Boston College who beat Northeastern University 5-4 in a thriller just prior to the Warriors and Wildcats game. Merrimack served as the away team, but fan support at the Garden was clearly in Merrimack’s favor. “I would say probably a third of the people that were here just from the Andover, North Andover area,” said Warriors head coach Mark Dennehy. “They have no ties to the school except the excitement of college hockey, and they’ve sort of jumped on our bandwagon which is plenty …

Have you seen those blue and gold lawn signs that read “Go Merrimack” around North Andover? The Merrimack College Warriors hockey team, traditionally sub-par within the ridiculously talented Hockey East, is fast approaching the culmination of their best season in team history. Merrimack College Athletic Director Glenn Hofmann wrote the following in the sixth edition of “From the AD’s Desk”: “The slogan reads 2,000 Students, 28 Players, 1 Mission - and it’s on signs all over campus, throughout Andover and North Andover and on the athletics and college website. Were it not for space limitations the slogan would have also included 22,000 alumni and 594 faculty and staff.” Warrior pride has never been more palpable. Over the past weekend, …

In a Hockey East Conference matchup between the nation’s 9th and 17th ranked teams, the underdog Merrimack College Warriors made a laugher out of the matinee game Saturday at Lawler Arena. “Just took care of business,” said Warriors head coach Mark Dennehy. “It was definitely not what we expected for sure,” said Merrimack captain Chris Barton who came away with a goal and two assists. “It’s always a good confidence booster to beat a good team like that,” he said. Led by sophomore Stephane Da Costa, who had two goals and an assist, the Warriors overtook Maine in the Hockey East standings, jumping up to fourth. “That was an absolute embarrassment,” said Maine head coach Tim Whitehead. “We just didn’t come to play,” said Maine senior Robby …

In one of the nation's most competitive college hockey divisions, the Merrimack College Warriors are turning heads with a flashy new rink and a team that has scored 11 goals in its first two games of the season. With a 7-1 demolition of UConn, Merrimack improved to 1-0-1 on the young season while the Huskies fell to 0-2-1. Merrimack sent their fans home happy in the home opener and grand reopening of the newly renovated Lawler Arena. The Warriors' playmaker from Paris Stephan Da Costa led the way with two goals off five shots. "I think that obviously Stephan Da Costa is someone that the Merrimack community needs to make sure that they really cherish because you're not going to see too many players come through here with his skill," said …
