The Elephant in the Race: Gay Republican Candidacy

Richard Tisei and Barney Frank share opposing views on how LGBT candidates can impact the Republican party.

Congressman John Tierney hosted a telephone press conference Thursday afternoon with openly gay Congressman Barney Frank to discuss the 6th District race and LGBT rights. This race has gained national attention, and not just because Republicans have a shot at grabbing a Massachusetts congressional seat. If elected, Tisei would be the first openly gay Republican elected to Congress. Frank -- who recently referred to Log Cabin Republicans as "Uncle Tom" -- bluntly said Tisei, who is also openly gay, would not be able to impact the Republican party when it comes to gay rights. The real elephant in the room is that we'll be stuck with Tierney for a long time if he wins re-election. Why not vote him out this time and elect a Democrat you can be proud of in two years time?   more ›

Massachusetts Among States Offering The Most LGBT Rights [Poll]

The Bay State has been deemed one of the friendliest states for the LGBT community.

In the wake of North Carolina's decision to amend its Constitution to ban same sex unions and President Barack Obama's announcement that he supports same sex marriage, The Guardian website has created a model looking at gay rights in each state. According to the graphic, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont, along with Washington state, Iowa and the District of Columbia, have the most rights afforded to gays.
