Where to Watch the Pats Today?

Watch the NFL Playoffs at a sports bar in North Andover!

Brady, Belichick and the rest of our boys from Foxboro are at it again. Playoff time is back in New England and the kickoff is today at 4:30. The Patriots earned a week off and spent last weekend watching the Wildcard round of the playoffs. The Houston Texans will try to spoil the party down in Foxboro. Led by offensive stars Andre Johnson and Adrian Foster, Houston has enough firepower to upset New England. Most fans, however, are expecting the machine-like Patriots to advance into the AFC Championship game. Vegas has the Pats favored by nine and a half points. Last week we suggested some places to watch the Wildcard round. Here are just a sampling of places you can watch today’s games. The Atlanta Falcons host the Seattle Seahawks at 1pm…

Winter Beers Arrive in North Andover

See how three local beers pair perfectly with entrées from three local restaurants.

As the season changes from autumn to winter, many restaurants and bars are no longer offering the sweet and delicious pumpkin flavored beers that we enjoy with cinnamon sugar rims. Instead of mourning the temporary loss of these brilliant brews, let’s celebrate the new seasonal beers that will surely warm up our winter. When it comes to food and beer, we at Patch are big proponents of going local. So here are some local restaurants that are serving local, seasonal beers. Jaime’s Restaurant, over on High Street, is offering a unique brew that will be new to many North Andover residents. Phantom Punch Winter Stout arrived at Jaime’s recently. It’s brewed by the Baxter Brewing Company in Lewiston, Maine. BevNET Magazine named Baxter Brewing …

This breakfast and lunch restaurant has good prices, a friendly atmosphere, and most importantly, great food.

Just east of the Merrimack River you will find a cozy little restaurant on Sutton Street that is one of North Andover’s hidden gems. The owners are known to remember customers by their first names, they provide plenty of variety, and online reviews are glowing. The Café has been around for 19 years after opening its doors back in August of 1991. With 12 tables in its cozy little location near the Suttons Mills, it is a little known location that has a lot to offer. Breakfast starts at 7:45am at The Café, and a host of breakfast sandwiches are available to get your day started off well. The ham, egg and cheese is a popular choice. Thyme to Eat!

North Andover's newest Japanese restaurant offers Hibachi style cooking and a unique sushi bar.

Thyme Japanese Cuisine in North Andover has been open for only eight months, but it has quickly found a home as one of the town’s favorite places to eat sushi. “Sushi and the Hibachi food are the most popular,” said Irene Li of Thyme. The sushi bar has a few items that you may not find at all Japanese restaurants. First of all the Ee-Dako, baby octopus, makes a great appetizer at only five dollars. Tako Su is another popular octopus dish that is marinated in a flavorful vinegar sauce. That dish costs only six dollars. Thyme offers many typical sushi dishes such as tuna, salmon, and yellowtail, but its unique choices set it apart. The Monk Fish Liver costs only seven dollars and will likely be a new experience for you. The Beef Tataki, …

Local Meal Deals for Veterans

In honor of Veterans Day 2012, a few local restaurants are offering discounts for military service members.

Since 1919 we have been celebrating Veterans Day. It was President Woodrow Wilson who first introduced Armistice Day in honor of our military. In 1954, Congress helped to rename the holiday “Veterans Day,” and ever since, we have used this title to hold parades, give thanks, and honor the men and women who have served in the United States military. North Andover will be holding its Veterans Day Parade today beginning at 9:30am at the First & Main Plaza. It will stop at the Patriots Memorial Park for service before heading towards the VFW on Main Street where a flag will be raised. A few local restaurants are offering deals to current and former military members. Stop by the Ninety Nine or wait until tomorrow to visit Denny’s or Friendly’s…

Seasonal Specials at Local Restaurants

From Pumpkin Martinis to Maple Whiskey Sirloins, North Andover restaurants have perfected fall flavors.

The leaves on the trees are in prime condition. The deep reds, oranges, and yellows are a vibrant reminder that we have a few precious weeks of autumn before they are bare and grim. Local restaurants are savoring autumn by serving fall flavors in their drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. One local favorite, Jaime’s Restaurant on 25 High St., has created the ultimate fall concoction. The now famous Pumpkin Martini combines five elements to essentially epitomize autumn in a glass. They start with Van Gough Caramel Vodka, and next comes Smirnoff Vanilla flavored vodka. The key is a pumpkin spiced liqueur, from which the drink gets its name. A squirt of whipped cream and a cinnamon sugar rim around the glass complete this seasonal …
