DiZoglio Receives Committee Assignments

Education and election laws will be her focus.

State Rep. Diana DiZoglio has settled into her new office on Beacon Hill, and she's received her committee assignments. DiZoglio will serve on the Committee on Election Laws, the Committee on Education and the Committee on Steering, Policy and Scheduling. "I am especially pleased to receive the assignments to Education and Election laws," DiZoglio said in a statement. "Being on Education will give me the opportunity to hear ideas from around the Commonwealth that can be applied to bringing positive changes concerning our district's unique needs." DiZoglio Files Municipal Campaign Ethics Legislation

The measure seeks to require city and town officials to adhere to ethical

State Rep. Diana DiZoglio filed legislation this week to address a campaign finance loophole for local elected officials. Currently, unlike state and county candidates, it is legal for municipal officials to remain on the ballot if they have multiple delinquent accounts and unpaid ethics violations as well as unreported expenditures, and contributions. DiZoglio seeks to change that and require city and town officials to adhere to the state and county standard when it comes to campaign finance law.   “In just my first week as the State Rep. from the 14th Essex district, I have heard from many constituents who feel this ethical wrong needs to be corrected," DiZoglio said in a statement. “People should be able to have confidence that …

DiZoglio to Hold First Office Hours Friday

The new state representative is ready to speak with you.

She's officially a Beacon Hill lawmaker, and now you can meet with her to discuss issues inportant to you. State Rep. Diana DiZoglio will hold open office hours from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the North Andover Senior Center conference room, 120R Main St., and invites all residents to attend. DiZoglio also announced that starting in February, she will hold office hours at the North Andover Senior Center on the second Friday of every month. She said she will soon announce locations and times for Methuen, Lawrence and Haverhill office hours. The representative would like to extend an invitation to any resident wishing to meet with her to discuss issues of concern. DiZoglio has not yet been assigned an office. DiZoglio: Pushing Forward

Fresh off a primary victory, the Democratic candidate is shifting into general election gear.

After Democratic candidate for state representative Diana DiZoglio of Methuen pulled a political upset and defeated State Rep. David Torrisi Thursday in the Democratic Primary, she was overcome with excitement. "I am so happy that the hard work paid off!" DiZoglio said of her win. "I hope this victory inspires others to challenge themselves beyond the expectations set by others. Setting high goals for yourself and giving it your all does pay off. Even if you don't have anyone to encourage you in your journey, find a way to encourage yourself." DiZoglio may have been helped by her support from unions. BREAKING: Dizoglio Defeats Torrisi

Essex 14th District seat primary results.

Incumbent State Rep. David Torrisi of North Andover has been defeated by challenger Diana DiZoglio of Methuen in the Democratic Primary. DiZoglio garnered about 1,600 votes, and Torrisi got 1,435. This primary race had emerged as a heated one, as unions began endorsing DiZoglio and DiZoglio signs started popping up on lawns across the Essex 14th District. Torrisi won in North Andover but his local lead was not enough to offset defeats in other communities in the district. North Andover was the only community in which Torrisi won. DiZoglio will now go on to face Republican Karin Rhoton in the general election for the seat. Check back with Patch in the morning for more details. POLL: State Rep. Democratic Primary

State Rep. David Torrisi will face off against challenger Donna DiZoglio.

It's definitely an unusual election year, and that is shown in the Essex 14th District state representative race. Incumbent Democrat David Torrisi of North Andover is facing a primary challenge by Diana DiZoglio of Methuen. The winner will be decided on Sept. 6, and that person will go on to face Republican Karin Rhoton in November.
