Newly reelected State Rep. Jim Lyons said he had an enormous amount of support for his campaign for the 18th Essex District.
State Rep. Jim Lyons was able to grab the votes to reclaim his seat in the State House of Representatives in the 18th Essex District. Lyons bested former State Rep. Barbara L'Italien, garnering 50.43 percent of the votes versus L'Italien's 48.18 percent of votes. According to results from the Associated Press, 11,735 voters chose Lyons to represent them in the 18th Essex House District. L'Italien lost by a little over 500 votes, garnering a total of 11,210 votes. Lyons was elected in 2010 and is now celebrating his first reelection victory. Lyons had no other Republican challegners in the September primary. To the Editor: Please join me in voting for Jim Lyons for state representative in the 18th Essex District. Jim Lyons has kept his promise of being a watchdog for the taxpayer. Representative Lyons has fought the status quo of political patronage and wasteful spending. Jim has battled the governor for accountability and exposed millions of dollars in fraud. I have worked with Jim Lyons in a professional capacity as a selectman and watched while he fought to increase local aid. While others told Rep. Lyons there were huge projected deficits at the state level, Lyons replied that waste could be cut and local aid could be increased. Candidate in the 18th Essex district Barbara L'Italien sent out mailers to citizens in the district that said incumbent State Rep. Jim Lyons (R-Andover) has an agenda that does not represent the priorities of Merrimack Valley communities.
With the election days away, Barbara L'Italien, challenger for the 18th Essex state rep. seat, sent out some mailers recently that claim that State Rep. Jim Lyons is backed by groups that are anti-equal marriage and anti-choice. The mailer contains several bullet points explaining the different efforts he had made while a state rep. that do not represent the will of the district. L'Italien claims Lyons wrote a bill would restrict health insurance coverage to cover counseling for rape victims, supported the restriction of counseling for gay students, supported the elimination of funding for teen pregnancy prevention and supported the elimination of student health services. I was not too familiar with either candidate, but one flyer that came to my house cinched it for me. It showed L'Italien with her arm around that snake of a mayor from Lawrence, Lantigua. He was endorsing her and that's all it took for me to know that she was the wrong choice more ›
