Boston Bruins take on the Chicago Blackhawks.
The funny thing about the Bruins playing the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup is that several years ago, I actually started rooting for the Blackhawks as one of those "other" teams you kind of like during playoff bids and whatnot. A recent in the Chicago Tribune notes that the Bruins vs. Blackhawks is the first "Original Six" Stanley Cup series since the Bruins won the cup against the New York Rangers in 1972. The Blackhawks are a formidable team, but so were the Pittsburgh Penguins, who just got swept by the Bruins in a thrilling series, especially games 3 and 4. Sidney Crosby of the Penguins is a household name among hockey fans, even if his playoff mettle was widely questioned - he finished the regular season third in the NHL in …

Merrimack baseball senior designated hitter and closer Joe Mantoni (Northbridge, Mass.) was drafted in the 18th round (555th overall) by the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday as part of Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft. Mantoni becomes the first Warrior drafted since the Minnesota Twins selected pitcher Ryan O'Rourke in the 13th round of the 2010 draft. "We are so proud of Joe and his accomplishment," head coach Jim Martin said afterward. "He is more than deserving of this opportunity. I am sure he is going to continue all of his success with the Reds because of not only his ability, but also because of his character and work ethic." The Merrimack Athletics Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, Mantoni served as the Warriors' primary …

North Andover jumped out to a 3-0 lead but the top-seeded Grey Ghosts pulled away in the second half to win the North Division 1 championship.
Third-seeded North Andover got off to a good start in its effort to upset one-loss top seed Westford Academy on Thursday afternoon. But the Grey Ghosts showed why they are the top seed in the second half, pulling away to win the North Division 1 championship. The Scarlet Knights scored the first three goals of the game, taking a first half lead on Westford's home turf. The teams entered the half tied at 5-5 and North Andover went up 6-5 early in the second frame. But the locals wouldn't score again until there was less than a minute to go in the game. Westford eventually sealed a 13-7 victory to advance to the state bracket, while North Andover's season came to a close with a record of 18-6.

Massachusetts also largely supports Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination in 2016.
Bay Staters like Hillary Clinton and support same-sex marriage, but nothing compares to their love of Red Sox Manager John Farrell. The Sox manager received the lowest disapproval percentage in Public Policy Polling history – even better than Abraham Lincoln, Mother Theresa and Santa Claus. What a difference a year makes for the Sox. The team’s hot start has 27 percent of those who took the survey predicting a World Series. Only 3 percent said the Sox will not make the playoffs. Sixty-four percent of those surveyed said Farrell is doing a good job. Only 1 percent disapproved of Farrell’s work this year. This is the lowest disapproval rating Public Policy Polling has ever seen. In comparison, in a national poll in November, Lincoln was …
