Local Girl Gets Haircut for Love

Erin Lucy donated her hair to Locks of Love.

For most kids, a summer haircut is all about looking stylish and being comfortable in the summer months. But for 9-year-old Erin Lucy, a summer haircut was about supporting a cause.

Erin Lucy, a student at grew her hair out and donated it to Locks of Love -- a charity organization that collects human hair and makes wigs for cancer patients.

Erin had seen a documentary about hair donation, and her cousin had already donated hers. So Erin decided that her locks had to go for the cause.

"Because there are little girls who have cancer and are bald, and my hair is pretty, and I think it will make a nice wig," Erin said. "I want to help these girls be pretty too."

So Erin went to -- where she usually goes for a trim -- and had them give her a bold new haircut. Her mother, Susan Lucy, was a bit hesitant with the idea at first.

"I was sad, i love her hair,," Susan Lucy Said. "I thought it was really nice, but she has beautiful hair. But I was very proud of her."

But Susan supported her daughter's good deed and took her to Nova to get the job done.

So was Erin nervous about getting her hair cut off?

"Yes when she started cutting I was very nervous, but then I really liked it because it was so easy to brush and was so light," Erin said. "I am glad my friends were there with me."

Now Erin is sporting a new look and is quite happy with it.

"I love my new haircut!" she said. And her mother loves it too.
