Edgewood Brings in Food and Funds for Charity

The retirement community helped secure more than $1,000 for Emmaus House.

Over the past several weeks, has held a food drive for Haverhill's Emmaus House shelter.

And their efforts paid off. They brought in more than 1,000 food items.

Staff and residents at Edgewood organized the drive, in which the annual Feinstein Challenge pledged to match $1 for every item. So in addition to bringing in a lot of food, Edgewood helped raise more than $1,000 in matching funds from the Feinstein Challenge.

The Feinstein Challenge calls on communities to work with local anti-hunger agencies each Spring to help fight hunger.

Edgewood has a history of giving. Over the past five years, Edgewood residents and staff have supported Emmaus House's work by assembling volunteer teams to serve meals and by holding clothing, toiletry and toy drives, and Edgewood has given Emmaus $25,000 over that time as well.
