The North Andover Police Dept and Neighborhood CrimeWatch program would like to send out a message to all residents of North Andover:
PLEASE LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS ...
In the past year North Andover has seen a 200% increase in car break- ins, 98% of these cars that have been broken into were unlocked cars.
Det. Dan Cronin has been following the pattern of these B&E's and the reports say it best: "It is happening ALL across North Andover. Not one area has been targeted over the other, it is a town wide problem."
Please don't think this will not happen to you. The tracking records show every corner, every main road, every side street and even tucked away areas have had reports of cars being broken into.
Det. Cronin has stated "There are a couple of groups doing the break-ins. They are not pulling up in front of your house in an automobile, they are doing this on foot. Walking through your yards, cutting through the woods etc."
Lt. Gray encourages you to call the police if your motion lights go on and off, if your dog barks unexpectedly or if you have a suspicion someone is on your property.
NAPD and Neighborhood Watch recommend the following:
1. Take all items valuable or not out of your car at night
2. Do not leave any change in your car
3. Lock your car immediately when you get out
4. Turn on your car alarm
Please call 911 immediately if someone is on your property.
