Valentine's Day Massages For Your Poochie

Benefits of Animal Massage Clinically and for Comfort

Animal massage? What is animal massage? These are common questions I am asked when I tell people I am a certified Small Animal Massage Practitoner.

But why would someone have their animal massaged? Well, for all the same reasons a person would. Like humans, it is very healthy emotionally and physically  for your pet. In fact, the practice of animal massage was around since time before Christ (BC). It is documented that the practice of massage actually started on animals before it was introduced to humans. The process of animal massage consists of the same twelve strokes used in human massage.

Do the pets really like massage?  Oh... yeah! How many times have you rubbed your dog's tummy and he nudged you for more? Or after a long walk have you ever helped your dog cool down by simply putting your hands on your dog and rotating them down his body? Well if you have, you noticed the dog tends to lay down and relax. If you haven’t, try it. The best is when you are able to help your pet relax during a stressful situation like; long car rides, trips to the Vets, or even thunderstorms.

Not just the family cat or dog can benefit from massage,  I have massaged, goats, cows, horses, Military and Police K-9 too.

Some benefits of massage include:

Promotes general relaxation.

Increases flexibility and joint movement.

Relieves muscle tension and relaxes muscle spasms.

Helps the body produce natural pain killers to ease pain and soreness.

Promotes faster recovery from injuries and illness.

By reducing stress, massage can give a renewed sense of well-being.

Improves circulation of the blood and lymph system, thereby strengthening the immune system.

So the next time your dog puts his backhind up against your hand,  don't think he is just wanting to play.  He may actually have sore hips or muscles and is asking for your help to make him feel better.  And for our felines friends ....keep rubbing their stomach.  You may think it is a fun game for them but in reality you are helping your cat keep and active and health digestive track.

Now go find your pet and he'll be sure to tell you  "Oh... Rub my Belly"
