National Dog Day Is Sunday, Aug. 26

A "Day" Just For Our Dogs

Of course there is a National Dog Day...why wouldn't there be ? We all know how crazy North Andoverites are about our dogs, imagine an entire country having the passion we do towards our furry friends? Wow ! That's simply AWESOME.  Annually every year on August 26 our country participates in this heartfelt day to acknowledge our "Best Companion." We LOVE our dogs and we want the entire nation to be part of this celebration.

What exactly is National Dog Day and how did it get started?  I would like to share this excerpt from the National Dog Day facebook page:

Founded in 2004 by pet lifestyle expert and author Colleen Paige, National Dog Day was created to honor dogs more than we currently do, to give them "a day", to show deep appreciation for our long connection to each other - for their endearing patience, unquestioning loyalty, for their work, their capacity for love and their ability to impact our lives everyday in the most miraculous ways. National Dog Day wishes to encourage dog ownership of all breeds, mixed and pure - and embraces the opportunity for all dogs to live a happy, safe and ”abuse-free life”.

National Dog Day is against any kind of "breed ban". Dogs should not have to lose their lives because of the atrocities they have been forced to endure at the hands of man. And while we feel that American's have the constitutional right to purchase a pure breed dog, we strongly discourage buying from pet stores, backyard breeders, the internet, newspaper ads and puppy mills, and rather encourage those seeking new canine companions, to verify that they are buying from a reputable breeder, educate themselves about their dog's breed and better yet - visit their local shelter or pure breed rescue group for a new furry family member that will be forever grateful.

Millions of dogs are killed each year because they are unwanted. They are
wonderful and viable sentient beings that deserve compassion and respect. Please consider adopting on National Day!

Nicely stated !

During this last weekend of our North Andover summer I encourage all of you to spend a little extra time with your pup.  Take a nice walk, buy her a new toy, and more importantly take a break from your hectic schedule and  just spend some valued quality time with your pooch and let her know how important she really is...( My Lani will be getting extra special attention, a dog massage and a run on the beach !)

If you don't have a dog and have been considering adding one to your family, this is the perfect weekend to visit the MSPCA, or any other rescue league.  How wonderful it would be to adopt a dog and save a life all on National Dog Day !

Check out this link and see how cute  our Patch reader's dogs really are ..ohh those faces...my heart just melts every time I look at these pictures.
