On Saturday, The Breakers played their last home game of the spring 2011 season, hosting the Lawrence Wolves. The Breakers needed a win to remain in contention for a playoff spot, while the Wolves were looking for their first win of the season.
Right from the beginning, the Breakers sent a loud clear message to the Wolves: “NOT TODAY!!” Less than 2 minutes into the game, Forward Lee Mcloughlin pounced on a rebound and fired it passed the Lawrence keeper for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.

Forwards Olivia DiMarzo, Arielle White, Hannah Twadelle, and Taylor Barbagallo supported by midfielders Jillian Feeney, Katherine Mellen, Emily Steinberg, and Lindsay West controlled the ball and kept the pressure on a very aggressive Lawrence team. A few minutes later, Lee took a lead pass from midfielder Simonne Brissenden and beat the Keeper again for her second goal.
Simonne scored the next goal off a beautifully placed corner kick from midfielder Jacqui Petto. This was Simonne’s first goal ever since she has been playing soccer and made the score 3 – 0 Breakers.

Later in the half, Jacqui scored on a free kick with a beautifully launched kick from 10 yards outside the penalty box. Through all this, the Breakers’ defense of Caitlin Lane, Quinn Relihan, Simonne, Jenny Whipple, and Nicole Barbagallo made sure that Erin McKenna’s time in net was quiet.
The first half ended with a score of 4 -0 Breakers.
In the second half, the Breakers let up on the pressure, moving the forwards to defense and the defenders to forward. The aggressive Wolves team immediately took advantage of this change and began putting pressure on the Breakers’ defense.
Ten minutes into the half they finally scored, shooting a ball past keeper Simonne Brissenden. At this point, Lindsey West replaced Simonne in the goal. The Breakers answered the Lawrence goal when on her next corner kick, Jacqui Petto scored with another perfectly placedcorner kicker that hit a Lawrence player and bounced past the keeper.
Lawrence would score 2 more goals, then Simonne scored her second goal of the game off a pass from forward Lee Mcloughlin. From then on, a stiff Breakers defense shut the Wolves down.
Final score: Breakers 6, Wolves 3.
