Walsh, Knights Poised for Another Season

The NAHS football team battles Andover tomorrow night in the 2011 season opener.

Welcome to the eighth and final installment of our Scarlet Knights fall sports season preview. Today we look at the North Andover High School football team.

After opening the 2010 regular season with a loss at Andover, the Knights ripped off ten straight wins before .

Tomorrow night, the Knights will try to get a win against their rivals from Andover for the first time since 2005.

The action gets underway tomorrow at 7pm with playing host. Admission for students and senior citizens is $5. The admission fee for adults is $7 while children under five can attend for free.

Last year’s squad had an epic run throughout the regular season with big wins over , and to close out the year.

Concord-Carlisle bested North Andover in the playoffs, leaving the Knights on the outside looking in at the teams lucky enough to advance to the Super Bowls at Gillette Stadium.

Senior quarterback is the heart and soul of this team. The baseball star is being courted by both college football and baseball programs and is looking forward to another memorable year.

North Andover will compete in the newly formed CAL/NEC featuring teams from Georgetown to Peabody. The Knights won the CAL Large last year with a big win over Pentucket.

This will be North Andover’s last year before . The annual game against Andover will be an opportunity for them to show how competitive they will be in 2012.

Unfortunately for the Knights, Brandon Walsh will graduate in May, 2012 making this his last dance with the football squad. Perhaps his younger brother Casey, a sophomore new to the varsity squad, will be the next member of the Walsh family to torture Eastern Massachusetts defenses.

After facing Andover, the Knights host Reading the following week. Homecoming will be against Lynn Classical on Oct. 21.
