Scarlet Knights' Report Cards: Field Hockey and Volleyball

The O-Zone hands out report cards for the NAHS fall athletic teams.

Welcome to the second part of a three part series that looks back on the 2011 North Andover High School fall athletic season.

Today we look at the field hockey and volleyball teams. Yesterday , and tomorrow we’ll assess the football team.

Field Hockey

Grade: A-

The field hockey team had an immensely successful 2011 campaign.

With key contributions coming from both the offense and defense, the Knights were able to advance all the way to the MIAA Division 1 quarterfinals.

The Knights had one of their best regular seasons of all time. North Andover went 12-1-5, good for a winning percentage of .806.

The only team during the regular season to beat North Andover was Andover, the eventual state champions of division 1.

The Knights got the fifth seed in the tournament and had a bye in the preliminary round. The Knights blanked Lowell 3-0 before falling to the number four seed, Chelmsford, by the score of 2-1. 

 

Volleyball

Grade A-

Another great report card goes to the NAHS volleyball team.

The regular season was a great success for the Knights; their final record was 15-5.

North Andover’s major success came when they proved themselves in the MIAA Division 1 North playoffs. The Knights got the tournament underway against Haverhill.

Haverhill, ranked 12th in the tournament, got crushed three to nothing against the Knights. North Andover cruised into a tough quarterfinal matchup against Tewksbury.

In the highlight of North Andover’s season, the Knights upset fourth ranked Tewksbury 3-1. The Knights would end up falling to Andover, eventual division 1 north runners up.
