Scarlet Knights' Report Card: Lacrosse

North Andover Patch gives the NAHS lacrosse teams their final grades for the season.

North Andover Patch will give each NAHS varsity spring team a report card throughout the week. This is part two of a three part series.

The girls and boys teams combined for a 26-13 record in 2011. Unfortunately both teams stalled early in the playoffs. Let’s take a look at how each team did on their report card.

Girls

The girls team had a breakout season in EMASS Division 1. They finished the regular season with a 15-3 record. The regular season was highlighted by a 12 game winning streak that ran from mid April until mid May.

The season started off with the girls going 2-1 before starting the epic winning streak. The offense was firing on all cylinders throughout April. The Knights scored over ten goals in all but one of their wins in the month. North Andover managed to score 19 on opening day against Hamilton-Wenham.

On May 5, the . Later in the month, North Andover beat Masco for the second time in the season. After a 5-4 win against Pinkerton on May 18, things went south for the Knights.

North Andover fell in a close one to Westford Academy in what would be a playoff preview. The Knights fell 10-9 in that contest on May 20. For the first time all season, North Andover lost two in a row as the Knights fell to Division 1 powerhouse Andover by nine goals.

A confidence building gave North Andover some momentum going into the tournament. Their time was up however in the first round of the tournament.

North Andover came in as the number four seed and faced 13th seeded Westford Academy. , and their season came to an end.

Final Grade: B+

The Knights’ disappointing playoff loss keeps them out of the “A” range, but a phenomenal regular season gave North Andover a lot more respect in Division 1.

Boys

The boys had a slightly above average season as the finished the year with a 10-8 record. The Knights were shut out by Newton North 4-0 in their first contest of the season but recovered with three straight wins against Marblehead,, and Newburyport.

Unfortunately, North Andover lost its next three straight. Dover-Sherborn, Winchester, and Lincoln-Sudbury all took down the Knights.

The Knights would have two more three-game winning streaks. From May 3 through May 10, the Knights beat Wilmington, Pentucket and Ipswich. After consecutive losses to Masco and Hamilton-Wenham, the Knights had three more straight wins against Peabody, Pentucket, and Beverly.

North Andover fell to Winchester for the second time in the season before heading off to Cape Cod for the Preliminary Round of the MIAA Division 2 East Tournament.

In Falmouth,. That moved North Andover into the first round against nemesis Concord-Carlisle. who eventually reached the sectional title game.

Final Grade: B

The regular season results were a little above average but an upset playoff win on the road knocks the Knights up to a solid “B”.
