Rare Tie in Knights Swim Meet

Knights knotted with Lynnfield 93-93; both basketball squads play Georgetown tonight.

It has been an up and down season for the Knight swimmers this winter. After last night's down-to-the wire match-up between the Lynnfield Pioneers and Scarlet Knights, North Andover's record now stands at 3-2-1.

The Knights are two-time defending Cape Ann League champions and are led by head coach Chris Krueger. 

Yesterday, North Andover tied 93-93 in a a rematch of the first meet of the 2010-11 season back in December.

The Knights and Pioneers started off the season on Dec. 15 at the Peabody YMCA, and North Andover managed a 96-82 win.

Lynnfield responded to that loss and proved they would be a Cape Ann League force by ripping off five straight victories before yesterday's rare tie. Their record now stands at 5-1-1.

North Andover's top performers from yesterday's meet included Liam Walsh, who won the 200 meter freestyle competition in 2:04.31 and Joe O'Neil, whose superb dive earned a score of 185.45.

John Boyle won the 100-meter breaststroke competition in a time of 1:13.35, while in the 200-meter freestyle relay, the team of Sam Angles, Demetri Lemonias, Kevin Doughty, and Kieran Dunbar came away with a win in a time of 1:44.97.

The Scarlet Knights were looking to gain some ground in the Cape Ann division standings. Currently in third, North Andover is looking up at Lynnfield and Masconomet who have each started the season with more meets than the Knights.

North Andover's quest for a third straight title continues today with a meet against Ipswich High School. The Ipswich YMCA hosts the meet beginning at 3:30p.m.

Looking ahead, North Andover will compete on Sunday morning in the Cape Ann League Open. Salem State College's O'Keefe Center hosts the event beginning at 9 a.m.

Today

The has two head-to-head contests starting at 3 p.m. Opponents at Bradford Ski Area will include Andover High and Austin Prep.

As mentioned earlier, the Knights swim team takes on Ipswich High School at the Ipswich YMCA at 3:30 p.m.

Head coach Susan Breen and the looks for its seventh straight win at Georgetown High School at 6:30 p.m.

North Andover Patch’s Athlete of the Week, , and the Scarlet Knights host Georgetown High School at 7 p.m.

O-Zone Lock of the Week

The O-Zone predicts that the Lady Knights basketball team will beat Georgetown High School by a score of 51-47 to win their seventh straight game tonight.

North Andover will be on the road for this one beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Knights are 9-3 while Georgetown is 4-8. The records are different, but the teams are currently averaging almost the same point totals per game. North Andover edges Georgetown in points per game, 48.25 to 46.75 this season.

The O-Zone has a 1-0 career record predicting Scarlet Knights games.
