North Andover Battles for District Champs Title

They have to win a few games to claim the title!

For a group of North Andover players, their summer of Little League will last a minimum of three more games. And if the results go their way this week, the local nine could keep things going for a bit longer.

North Andover American bested all of the competition in the District 14 tournament.

As a result, the team will compete at the end of this week in the Section 4 tournament, hoping to become one of the state's final four teams. As of right now, North Andover is one of just 16 squads still playing at the 12-year-old all-star level.

After advancing to the Section 4 portion of the state tournament, North Andover competes with District 13 winner Wilmington, District 15 champion Hamilton-Wenham, and District 16 winner Peabody Western.

North Andover will play on Wednesday, July 16, at 7:30 p.m. versus Wilmington, Thursday against Hamilton-Wenham at and Friday against Peabody Western.

This portion of the tournament is round robin style. That means that the two teams with the best records at the end of the week will play for the Section 4 title on Saturday.

At that point, the remaining for teams will square off to determine who will represent Massachusetts in the New England tournament, which takes place in Bristol, Conn. The winner of the New England tournament plays in Williamsport, Penn., in the Little League World Series.
