NAHS Athletics Joins Merrimack Valley Conference

The Knights will take their talents to the MVC starting in fall 2012.

The North Andover High School Athletics program will be moving from the Cape Ann League into the Merrimack Valley Conference, effective in the fall of 2012.

“After considering a league affiliation change for athletics for the past two years, the North Andover Athletic Department today accepted the invitation of the Merrimack Valley Conference to join the MVC effective in the fall of 2012,” Superintendent Chris Hottel said in a statement.

North Andover, originally invited into the Dual County League, believed that the MVC was best for North Andover’s athletes.

“A survey taken last year by the School Committee Subcommittee on Athletics determined that the community was in favor of a league change but wanted to be certain that it was done in a thoughtful way, with consideration for what was best for all of North Andover’s students and teams,” Hottel said.

North Andover becomes the 11th team in the MVC. The MVC voted unanimously to include North Andover in its organization.

The MVC was close to losing three of its members to the Dual County League but will now in fact be growing with the addition of North Andover.
