Merrimack's Petar Golijanin Receives Excellence Award

The following was submitted by Brad Davis of Merrimack College.

Petar Golijanin of Novi Sad, Serbia, from the men’s tennis team, received the Northeast-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence award for men’s tennis from the 2010-11 academic year.

Golijanin, who posted a 3.79 GPA in biochemistry, helped lead Merrimack to a share of its first-ever Northeast-10 regular season title, as he was 16-3 in singles and 16-8 in double competition.

A first-team all-conference honoree and named to the NE-10’s All-Academic team, Golijanin guided Merrimack to a school-record 16 wins and its fourth-straight and fourth-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

To be eligible, the student-athlete must have completed at least two consecutive semesters of full-time enrollment and at least two years of athletic eligibility at any institution. In addition, each student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30.

Since the inception of the scholar-athlete sport excellence awards in 2009-10, Golijanin becomes the third Merrimack student-athlete to earn the award, joining Robbie Sabadoz of Ottawa, Ontario, and Kelly Pasquantonio of Plainville, who were chosen in 2009-10 for men’s soccer and women’s lacrosse, respectively.
