“I’m very excited to have Julian on staff with me at Merrimack,” said LeBlanc, who will enter her first season as head coach in 2011-12. “He has great energy and passion for coaching and will be a great asset in recruiting. He shares my enthusiasm for hard work and will be a big part of that culture here at Merrimack.”

At Western State College, Assibey helped the women’s basketball program reach the postseason for the third straight season. He oversaw all aspects of recruiting, scouting, travel, and camps while cultivating alumni support.

Assibey spent the 2009-10 campaign at his alma mater, William Penn University, leading the program to its first winning season since 1993-94.

A native of Gunnison, Colorado, Assibey spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Metro State (Colo.) working primarily with the guard position while aiding in all aspects of the program, helping the team to a third-place finish in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 2008 and a fifth-place finish in 2009.

Following graduation in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Administration and Strength and Conditioning, he received a coaching position for the Southern California Basketball Academy. Assibey then utilized his personal and playing skills by spending a year with the Harlem Ambassadors, performing as a show basketball player.

Assibey was a strong multi-sport collegiate athlete at Penn, serving three years as a captain for the basketball team. On the hardwood, he broke the school's career steals record and placed in the top ten in three-pointers made in a career. His freshman team in 2001-2002 finished 2-30, but by the time he graduated in 2005, the Statesmen had played for back-to-back conference tournament championships and had won 20 games in 2005. Assibey was the leader of the jumping crew in track as he won three conference titles in the long jump in 2002, 2003, and 2005, claimed a league title in the triple jump in 2003, and qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the triple jump in 2003.
