Merrimack Men’s Soccer Tabbed Sixth in Northeast-10 Coaches Poll

The men’s soccer team has been picked to finish sixth in the 2011 Northeast-10 Coaches Poll, in an announcement made Tuesday by the league office

The Warriors received 108 points while Franklin Pierce took the top spot with 166 points and 10 first-place votes. Southern New Hampshire and Southern Connecticut each garnered two first-place votes while being selected second and third, respectively. Bentley edged Le Moyne for fourth in the poll by three points with 128.

Merrimack posted a 9-8-1 overall record in 2010 with a 5-7-1 mark in the Northeast-10. The Warriors reached as high as number 14 in the national rankings during the season.

The Warriors earned the number 8 seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament last season. Merrimack fell 5-1 to top-seeded Franklin Pierce, the number 1 team in the country. The Warriors owned a 1-0 lead over the Ravens in the 60th minute on a tally by Sabadoz.

The Warriors return five all-conference selections for 2011. Robbie Sabadoz of Ottawa, Ontario, a first-team pick, led Merrimack with 23 points on nine goals and five assists. Evan Burokas of Auburn earned second-team honors last season while leading Merrimack and the league with nine assists. Nicholas Lo Coco of Gloucester, Franklin Pena of Revere and Olof Lindhe of Stockholm, Sweden, all garnered third-team accolades a year ago.

Sabadoz, Lo Coco and Victor Plaza of Jundiai, Brazil, will serve as captains for the 2011 campaign.

Merrimack will kick-off the 2011 season Sept. 1 as it hosts the annual Merrimack Invitational. The Warriors will face Post in the season-opener and close out the tournament against Dominican (New York) Sept. 3.
