Merrimack Hockey Receives First Ever Preseason National Ranking

The hockey team received its first ever preseason national ranking on Monday afternoon as they were picked 15th by USCHO.com.  The Warriors finished the 2010-11 campaign with the most wins in school history with 25 and advanced to the NCAA tournament where they were defeated by Notre Dame in the first round.

The Warriors were 25-10-4 on the season and were nearly perfect at Lawler Arena with a record of 14-2-1; the 14 home victories were the most in school-history.  Merrimack finished off the season with an eight game winning streak at home and advanced to their first-ever Hockey East championship game against Boston College where they were downed by the score of 5-3. They were also awarded their first NCAA tournament appearance since 1988 and first since joining the Hockey East conference.

Other ranked Hockey East teams include #16 Maine, #12 New Hampshire, #10 Boston and #5 Boston College.

Merrimack will kick off their 2011-12 campaign on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at Maine. They will open the home portion of their schedule on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. against Army. Limited tickets remain available and can be purchased online at www.merrimackathletics.com.
