Lady Knights Finish Season Undefeated in League Play

The North Andover girls went 12-0 this season in Cape Ann League play; the playoffs are looming for the basketball and hockey teams.

The of the hard-court had already clinched a much deserved Cape Ann League title, but there was still a lot to play for on Wednesday night against North Reading.

A 63-44 destruction of the Hornets gave the Knights an undefeated Cape Ann League record of 12-0.

They improved their overall record to 15-3. At home in 2010-11 North Andover boasted an 8-1 record.

Wednesday’s win featured another scoring barrage for sophomore Morgan Lumb. She led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds. Lumb knocked down an amazing five three-pointers throughout the game.

Alongside her was Julia Titone who scored 10 points and two three-pointers of her own.

North Andover’s playoff schedule will be announced by the MIAA later on today.

Boys Hockey

The Knights, for the second straight game, of the game providing for a heartbreaking result.

The Knights played Masconomet, their archrivals from Middleton, Wednesday night. In the final minute with the game tied 4-4, goalie Joey Daccord gave up a goal to allow the Cheiftans to pull ahead for a 5-4 win.

Sophomore continued his impressive season scoring two goals for the Knights. He also had one assist in the game.

Cody Aponas and Dan Rivet also scored for the Knights while Ryan Sweeney, Mike Cusack, and Nick Pino all found their way onto the stat sheet with assists.

The boys’ playoff schedule is set to be announced by the MIAA on Saturday.

Friday

The returns to action in the All States Individual tournament. hosts the event which will begin at noon.

The Knights of the ice travel to Methuen to close out their regular season. North Andover is 10-6-4 and will look to end their first season under head coach Peter Marfione on a positive note against the Rangers.

The Cape Ann League All Star games will take place at tonight. The region’s best basketball players will lace up at Crozier Gym. Expect North Andover’s Morgan Lumb and to be among the stars.

The girls game tips off at 6 p.m. and the boys battle at 7 p.m.

O-Zone Lock of the Week

The O-Zone will leave the court and take to the rink for this week’s prediction.

The Scarlet Knights travel to Methuen for their regular season finale.

The Rangers are 5-12 while North Andover comes in at 10-6-4. The Knights need a win to avoid playing a preliminary game in the MIAA State Tournament.

The Knights will beat the Rangers to close out the regular season.

The O-Zone has a 3-1 record predicting Scarlet Knights games.
