Knights Primed for Title Tilt

The Knights are exactly where they want to be.

With a, they are in position to bring home a Sectional Championship. The only team standing in their way is Lynn Classical, and they will be playing with a bit of a home field advantage tonight.

The historic Fraser Field in Lynn will host the MIAA Division 2 North Championship game tonight at 6:00 p.m. Fraser Field was built in 1940 and has been home to many different baseball teams.

The park is currently home to the North Shore Navigators, a collegiate summer baseball team. They play in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Fraser Field was also home to the opening round of the 2006 and 2007 Baseball Beanpot.

The Boston Red Sox even had a minor league team call Fraser Field home from 1946-1948. The Lynn Red Sox were a Class-A affiliate of the major league team.

North Andover or Lynn Classical will earn themselves a championship tomorrow and North Andover is a clear favorite. The Knights are on a well documented 22 game winning streak that began way back on April 9 in Lawrence.

Since then, the Knights have been crushing opponents with brawny batting and precision pitching. During their playoff run, the Knights have beaten , and . The Knights are the tournament’s top seed.

Lynn Classical, on the other hand, came into the tournament as the 15th seed. North Andover beat the 16th seed, Dracut, 11-1. Lynn Classical will come into the game with a  14-10.

Lynn Classical bounced second seeded Reading from the playoffs in the first round. They then blanked Masconomet 2-0 in the quarterfinals. Finally, against third seeded Danvers, they won 7-3.

The winner of tonight’s game has a shot at the state semifinals. Tomorrow, Plymouth North and Somerset will play for the Division 2 South Championship at Adams Field in Quincy. The winner of that game faces the winner of tonight’s tilt in Lynn.
