Jill Karwoski Named Merrimack Head Softball Coach

Jill Karwoski, the former Associate Head Coach at Boston College, has been named the head softball coach at

“Jill brings a tremendous amount of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to Merrimack,” said Director of Athletics Glenn Hofmann. “She is the perfect candidate to lead what should be a very successful program this spring and for many years to come.”

The associate head coach at Boston College since 2007, Karwoski served as the recruiting coordinator and produced the 2011 ACC Rookie of the Year, the first in the program’s history. Training the infield and assisting with the offense, BC finished second in the league in homers and slugging percentage, while setting the school record for homers with fifth-seven.

“I am extremely excited and fortunate to take over as head coach for a nationally recognized and successful softball program at Merrimack,” said Karwoski. “I am confident the foundations for success have been laid and feel fortunate to be able to inherit a program that has physically acted on its opportunity to improve and grow as a team. With enhanced communication, loyalty, and enthusiasm, my mission will be to ignite the student-athlete experience while maintaining on-field progress and development.”

Previously, Karwoski served as the head coach at Division I Morehead State University from 2004-07. Under her guidance, Morehead State recorded the program’s best record since 1999 and tied a single-season mark for wins, while setting the field percentage mark. Academically, the team boasted a 3.3 GPA.

A former Division II student-athlete at Lewis State, Karwoski was a three-time NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete and a two-time all-region selection. She graduated with a degree in Sport Management and was a two-time team MVP and a two-time Gold Glove winner.

Karwoski inherits a Merrimack team that reached the NCAA Super Regional in 2011 with a 31-23 record. The Warriors return most of the 2011 squad that reached the Northeast-10 Championship and won the NCAA East Regional 1 as a #8 seed, including NE-10 Pitcher of the Year Kelli Jo Deardorff.
