Athlete of the Week: Candace Waldie

Waldie was an MVP field hockey player at NAHS and looks to bring that talent to Merrimack College.

Former North Andover High School field hockey and softball standout and soon-to-be Merrimack College field hockey player Candace Waldie is our North Andover Patch Athlete of the Week.

Waldie recently transferred to Merrimack from UMass Amherst. She was playing at Amherst under a softball scholarship.

Last season, Merrimack’s field hockey team posted an 8-11 overall record. They hope that Waldie’s arrival will be a factor in helping the team improve in the 2011 season.

The Northeast-10 Conference ranked Merrimack sixth out of 11 teams in its annual preseason coaches poll.

The Warriors start their season off by playing against four nationally ranked teams. Merrimack travels to No. 8 Indiana (Pa.) for its first game on Saturday, Sept. 3.

Merrimack’s home opener will be on Thursday, Sept. 8 against No. 10 Bentley. Click here to visit the Merrimack College women’s field hockey team website.
