John Perry of Andover is heading to Houston. The football coach is taking his expertise to the Houston Texans of the National Football League after being named to the coaching staff last week.

"Obviously my family and I are so excited to be a part of the Houston Texans organization," Perry said in a statement.

Perry was most recently the quarterbacks coach at the University of Delaware for one season. Prior to that, he was the head coach of the Merrimack College football program in North Andover for five seasons.

He said last week, “"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to work with the Texans, and I know I've been very fortunate in my coaching journey to arrive here from where I started and I could not be more thankful and appreciative of every school I've been a part of along the way, especially Merrimack."

While with Merrimack, Perry had a 29-21 record.

He has also coached at Northeastern (1993), Brown (1994-96), New Hampshire (1997-98 and 2007), Dartmouth (1999-2004) and Georgetown (2005).
