Scholaship in Memory of NAHS Student Needs Donations

Help keep that student's music going.

James R. Fulks Jr. was supposed to graduate from North Andover High School in 1985, but he was killed in a car accident the year before. His classmates keep his memory alive today, and they could really use your help.

There is a scholarship in Fulks' memory, in the form of a music award. Fulks, who moved to North Andover just before his junior year, was known as a gifted music student and a leader in the high school band, chosen as an All-American drummer in statewide marching band competition. Jazz, rock, his talent was said to be varied and immense.

But so far, the scholarship is only in the amount of $100. As most parents know, these days $100 doesn't go far in college.

"While we didn’t really know Jim, we thought that it was a shame that the scholarship amount would barely get someone a textbook," School Committee member Laurie Burzlaff and Janet McCay wrote in a letter to the Class of 1985, asking members of the Class of 1985 to pitch in what they can to increase the scholarship amount.

"Any size contribution will make a difference. Just think, if we each send in just $10.00, we would raise over $2,000.00!" the letter reads.
