North Andover Walk or Ride to School Day Wednesday

Kids will spotlight the need for sidewalks in this annual event.

Feeling frustrated about a lack of sidewalks? Wednesday is Walk or Ride to School Day as part of the Safe Routes to School Program, and North Andover is joining in.

All schools will have supervised drop-off areas within 1-mile radius of the school for students living outside walking distance or in areas unsafe to walk.

The nationwide Safe Routes to School Program program aims to reduce congestion, air pollution and traffic conflicts near participating schools and promote children's health and fitness.

North Andover joined Safe Routes to School in 2009 and has secured $630,000 of state and federal funds for safety infrastructure improvements such as new or reconstructed sidewalks, crosswalks, traffic lights, and more.
