Town to Spray for Mosquitoes... Not Sure When

Weather and workload will impact the timing.

West Nile virus was found in a batch of mosquitoes in North Andover last week, but it's unclear when the town will be sprayed for mosquitoes.

That's because the weather might deter trucks from spraying. Temperatures should be above 55 degrees while spraying for mosquitoes.

"You want it to be as effective as possible," Sawyer said.

Also, there are other communities to be sprayed this week, and Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control will be pressed for time, Sawyer said. West Nile virus was found in Beverly, Danvers, Hamilton, Lynnfield, Manchester by the Sea, Peabody and Swampscott, and EEE was found in Amesbury and Methuen.

When trucks do spray North Andover, it will be around downtown. The West Nile virus mosquitoes were found near the Senior Center.

This is the second time this year mosquitoes have been found with West Nile virus in North Andover. And this week, the Massachusetts Department of Health confirmed that there has been one case of West Nile virus in a human in the Merrimack Valley.

West Nile virus can be transmitted to humans through mosquito bites. The virus is most dangerous seniors.
