The Board of Selectmen recently reorganized itself, and Selectman Rosemary Smedile is the new chair.
Typically, the chair position alternates every year. A selectman is not chosen as chair if he or she will be running for office that year, Smedile said, because it would give that selectman an unfair advantage in their campaign. Selectmen Tracy Watson and Don Stewart are up for reelection next year.
Watson is now licensing commissioner, and Selectman Dick Vaillancourt is the clerk.
The chair directs meetings and deals with the town manager, playing a more involved role in town government than the other four members.
