Seniors Group Endorses Tierney

The Alliance for Retired Americans cites his record on Social Security and Medicare.

The Alliance for Retired Americans has endorsed Congressman John Tierney for re-election.

“John Tierney’s commitment to protect Social Security and Medicare is proven," ARA Executive Director Edward F. Coyle said. "His pledge and votes to combat cuts to the programs – including privatization; cuts in benefits and raising the eligibility age – confirm his commitment to maintain and improving the quality of life for older Americans. Congressman Tierney is the only candidate in the 6th District that seniors can trust."

The Alliance for Retired Americans is an advocacy group representing more than 4 million retirees, more than 82,000 in Massachusetts.

The ARA gave Tierney a 100 percent score on his voting record related to seniors' issues. The ARA, in announcing their endorsement, also raised concerns about Richard Tisei relating to Congressman Paul Ryan -- now Mitt Romney's pick for vice presidential candidate -- and Ryan's budget plan that would transition Medicare into a voucher system in the future.

“I am honored to have the support of the Alliance for Retired Americans," Tierney said. "I remain committed to standing up for seniors and making sure they have the secure retirement that they have earned. I will continue to fight against right-wing attempts to undermine Medicare and Social Security. I look forward to continuing to work with the Alliance on the issues that matter most to seniors."

Tierney plans several visits in the district this week to speak with voters about Social Security, which was enacted 77 years ago this week.
