Patch the Vote: Extreme Campaigning

Your round-up of election 2012 coverage this week.

Election season 2012 is in high gear now, and we don’t want you to miss a thing. Here are some highlights from various races from your area.

CONGRESS DISTRICT 6

North Andover Selectman Rosemary Smedile spoke at a “Women For Tisei” event, supporting Republican candidate Richard Tisei.

Congressman John Tierney attacking Tisei with images of Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin, accusing Tisei of being a right-wing extremist.

Tisei held a at which Democrats Paul Casey and Maureen Flatley spoke in support of Tisei.

At the event, Tisei and his supporters dismissed Tierney’s TV ad as lies and rambling.

Tisei and Congressman Barney Frank Tisei would be the first openly gay Republican elected to Congress, but Frank insists that won’t matter under the conservative Republican leadership. Tisei disagrees, saying he would work to change his party.

showed Tierney leading Tisei by several points, but it also showed 22 percent undecided.

U.S. SENATE

Things got heated this week, as Democrat Elizabeth Warren unleashed an attack ad against Sen. Scott Brown, accusing him of siding with Wall Street over families and students.

Brown countered with an attack of his own.

I had homed for better in this campaign, and the voters of Massachusetts deserve better,” Brown said in a statement. “What her campaign doesn’t understand is that the problem voters have is not with Professor Warren’s TV ads, its her extremist views and her role as the founder of the radical Occupy protest movement that are turning people off.”

Warren didn’t actually start the Occupy Wall Street movement, however. That movement was started in mid-2011 by the Canadian publication AdBusters.

Meanwhile, Brown may have given Warren fresh ammo when he was on the “Jim & Margery” radio show and said he would not vote to extend tax cuts for people making less than $250,000 if it meant top income earners would not get an extension as well.

HOUSE ESSEX 14TH

It was a quiet week for the Essex 14th race. Democrat Diana DiZoglio over State Rep. David Torrisi in the primary.
