At the at the local officials gathered to celebrate the career of former Town Moderator Charlie Salisbury. The Republican Town Committee also named Salisbury Republican of the Year.
Salisbury announced last year that he would not seek reelection as town moderator, after holding the position for more than 20 years.
Born and raised in North Andover, Salisbury graduated from The Brooks School in the Class of 1960 and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1964.
In 1971, Salisbury was appointed to the town’s Advisory Board (former name for the town’s Finance Committee), and he was elected to the Board of Selectmen in 1978 and served for 12 years. He later went on to serve as the town's iconic town moderator for more than two decades.
He and his wife, Martha have two grown children, Hunt Salisbury, of Rockport and Margot Shewchuk of Redmond, Wash.
At the Republican Spring Fling tribute to him, Salisbury said not to expect him to retire and go away. He may just run for office again soon.
