Local Unemployment Rate Went Up in July

The shaky economy had an impact in North Andover.

News on the jobs front has been anything but great this summer, and that's seen in local numbers as well, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

In July, the unemployment rate was 6.1 percent, up from 5.8 percent in June and almost back up to the 6.3 percent we saw locally in July 2011.

Statewide, the adjusted unemployment rate rose at a similar rate and was at 6.6 percent in July, up from 6.3 percent in June but down from 7.5 percent in July 2011. Areas of the state that saw a decrease in unemployment were Cape Cod and the islands, which are in their high-revenue tourist season.
