LGBT Labor Activist Group Endorses Tierney

This is the latest in a line of endorsements for the congressman.

Congressman John Tierney has been endorsed for re-election by the Gay and Lesbian Labor Activists Network (GALLAN), a labor activist coalition whose mission is to bridge together the labor movement and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community around social and economic justice.

“We are proud to stand with Congressman Tierney because of his work to advance LGBT rights and his support for working families,” said Jennifer Springer of SEIU Local 888, Executive Vice President at-large for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO. “John has been such a strong advocate for our issues and we will be working to help his campaign in the lead up to Election Day.”

Tierney, a longtime advocate for LGBT rights, supports same sex marriage rights, LGBT adoption rights and supported the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and the passage of the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill. He has also pushed for Employment Non-Discrimination Act and supports repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and Tierney.

“I am very proud of GALLAN’s endorsement in this campaign," Tierney said. "We are united in the effort to fight for full equality in the workplace and move our country forward with a stronger middle class. Now more than ever, the LGBT community needs to know where their elected officials stand on equality and who is willing to fight for their civil rights in the home and the workplace. I will continue to fight for equal rights for all Americans.”

Recently, Congressman Barney Frank spoke out about his support for Tierney.
